Netflix a intrat în discuții exclusive cu Warner Bros Discovery pentru a achiziționa studioul de film și televiziune al companiei, precum și serviciul de streaming HBO Max, relatează revista Variety.

Dacă părțile ajung ajung la o înțelegere, aceasta ar marca o transformare seismică în peisajul media și de divertisment din Statele Unite. În calitate de lider al serviciilor de streaming cu plată, Netflix a crescut până a devenit de departe cea mai mare și mai influentă companie de la Hollywood, cu o capitalizare de piață de 437 de miliarde de dolari, depășind chiar și Disney, care are o valoare pe bursă de 190 de miliarde de dolari.

Variety amintește că Netflix nu și-a „cumpărat” drumul său spre Hollywood, ci și-a construit poziția dominantă începând ca primul mare serviciu de streaming, pornind de la o cinematecă de conținut licențiat de la studiourile tradiționale, înainte de a dezvolta conținut original precum franciza Stranger Things care a revenit recent în streaming cu ultimul sezon.

O tranzacție ar oferi Netflix drepturile asupra cinematecii Warner Bros, ce include filme și seriale pornind de la Casablanca și The Maltese Falcon, la Friends și Ted Lasso.
