Do Kwon, antreprenorul sud-coreean din domeniul criptomonedelor care a lansat două monede digitale care au provocat în 2022 pierderi estimate la 40 de miliarde de dolari, a fost condamnat joi la 15 ani de închisoare pentru ceea ce un judecător a numit o escrocherie „de proporții epice”, relatează Reuters.
Judecătorul federal Paul A. Engelmayer, care a pronunțat sentința, l-a mustrat dur pe Kwon pentru că i-a mințit în mod repetat pe investitorii de rând care și-au pus încrederea și economiile de-o viață în mâinile lui.
„A fost o fraudă la scară epică, generațională. În istoria urmăririlor penale federale există puține fraude care să fi produs atâtea pagube câte ați produs dumneavoastră, domnule Kwon”, i-a spus Engelmayer în timpul audierii de la tribunalul federal din Manhattan.
Kwon, în vârstă de 34 de ani, a cofondat compania Terraform Labs din Singapore și a dezvoltat monedele TerraUSD și Luna.
